Strange story

#93 Loft in a 1-room apartment

I live in an apartment that was built in 1989.

It is a normal, if not comfortable, 1room apartment with a loft and a 6-mat room.
I moved in about a year ago, but the loft has been scaring me for the past 6 months or so.
When I come home from work at night and enter my room, the loft is right in front of my eyes before I turn on the light.
I sometimes feel as if someone is watching me from this dark loft.
At first I tried not to think about it too much, thinking that it was probably due to being tired.
But yesterday, something happened that turned out to be a vengeance for me.
There is a bed in the loft, and when it is time to go to bed, I see the front door leading to the kitchen.
When I go to bed, I always look at the doorway without being aware of it, but even then, I sometimes feel a gaze.
At those times, I try to go to bed after reading a book to calm my agitated mind.
I always turn off the light in my room, turn on my bedside lamp, and read a book.

Then I noticed a strange feeling.
I hear something coming from the room below the loft, where the lights are off.
I listen intently.
It was the sound of breathing, coming from downstairs in the dark.
The moment I realized what it was, I was so startled that I couldn’t move.
My heart beats faster as I wonder if there is someone in the room.
A heavy air enveloped me.
In my vision was a dimly lit room.
But the sound certainly echoes.
It is coming from the bottom of the loft, exactly in my blind spot.
Someone is on the wall along the loft, listening.
I could imagine such a situation, which made me shrink even more.

For a while, it was like a stalemate and nothing could be done.
Then the breathing sound suddenly stopped.
I thought it was a sign of release and was relieved.
At that moment.
I heard a creaking sound from the ladder to the loft.
It sounded just like a person coming up.
I was caught off guard again, and I couldn’t move.
My mind was a jumbled mess, wondering what in the world could have caused this.
I decided to at least try to deal with whatever was coming up.
The sound continued.
I was close to seeing something.
A few seconds, but it felt like hours..
But nothing was visible to my poised vision.
The sound stopped.
I felt someone come up to the loft.

What on earth is this?
That was the moment I thought so.
The stand light went out.
In an instant, it was pitch black.
At that moment.

“Who are you?”

I heard a voice in my ear.

When I came to, it was morning.
Apparently, I had fainted.

I’m not sure why, but I don’t feel like pursuing what I experienced, because I feel like it would be a bigger deal if I did.
I am now wondering if I should continue to rent this room.

I don’t think I can stand it if it happens again.
