Most famous in Japan

#49 One of Japan’s most famous scary stories, “Kashima-san” Another Story.

I had a friend who was a founding member of a team called “Kijima-san”.
It all started when this person was involved in a hit-and-run car accident.
When the team members, including the leader, rushed to the hospital, the “No Visitors” sign had just been removed from the door.
In the hallway were the parents, the mother was in tears, but the father let them through because he knew his son would be happy to see them.
When they entered the hospital room, they saw “Kijima-san” lying in bed, his entire body wrapped in bandages.
All four limbs were gone.
Both arms and legs had been amputated, but there was no intravenous drip or oxygen, just the regular beeping of an EKG monitor.
It was too late. There was nothing to do.
Only one eye peeked through the bandages and moved around to look at them.
Then a low, bandaged voice mumbled something.
When the leader pulled his ear closer, he heard
“Find out who did this to me…”
“All right,” the leader replied.
“I will find the culprit and avenge him!”
Soon after, the EKG waveform flattened out.

They scrambled to find the culprit.
But, being amateurs, they were unable to find and catch the culprit, and a year passed.

The first anniversary of “Kijima-san’s” death came.
Members of “Kijima-san” gathered at the graveside.

They did not come to communicate with each other, but to apologize for not being able to fulfill their promise.
They laid hands on the graveside, some of them even sobbing.
Everyone prayed, “I’m sorry, please forgive me, and be at peace.”
From somewhere, a mumbling voice could be heard.
It was coming from behind them.
They looked.
“Kijima-san” was sitting on a headstone behind them.
He had no arms or legs, and his entire body was wrapped in bandages, with only one eye peeking out…
“You’re the one who killed me!” He said as he roared.
The large group of men screamed.
“No! Not us!”
Kijima-san disappeared with the same abruptness with which he had appeared.
“Don’t tell anyone.”
With a word from the leader, everyone decided to keep it to themselves.

And a few years later…

One summer. One of the members told a ghost story about the ghost of “Kijima-san.”
His friends were shaken up and happy.
But then….

A few days after he returned home, he received a phone call from his friend.
In a trembling voice, the friend said, “I saw Kijima-san.”

“I was at home taking a bath when I heard a voice whispering behind me while I was washing my hair.”
“You’re the one who killed me!”

“It’s all in your mind,” he told his friend.

A few minutes after hanging up the phone, another friend said, “I saw Kijima-san…”

“I was alone in the elevator of my apartment building and heard a muffled voice when no one was there.
When I turned around, of course no one was there.
But below my gaze, I saw one eye glaring at me, wrapped in bandages around a limbless body.”
“You’re the one who killed me!”

In the end, he received several phone calls that night from friends.
“I saw Kijima-san.”

The story ends here.
Kijima-san is still looking for the culprit.
It is a terrifying game of “message” in which anyone who hears the story is visited by “Kijima-san.”
You may see “Kijima-san” within a few days of hearing this story.
If Kijima-san asks you ”You’re the one who killed me!”, you should answer No!.
And then tell someone about the experience.
For Kijima-san to find the real culprit.

Having said that, here is where this ghost story is called “the scariest”.
Actually, this story is a myth.
The team member said to his friend, “What, you still believe it? That’s not a true story. The person called “Kijima-san” does not exist.”

Did you think, “What the heck?”
What was truly bizarre and strange was not this.

Let me explain.
Even if there is no possibility that “Kijima-san” exists.
Both arms and legs have been amputated, the whole body is covered with bandages, and only one eye is exposed.
You may have noticed that there is some information that says
Although he said one eye, he did not say which was left or right.
If the sighting is a misidentification or illusion, the probability of coincidence with the correct answer is 50%.
If, however, he made up the story and did not say left or right, then the probability of his testimony is 50%, and half of the time they must be wrong.
But, however.
The eyewitness testimonies are consistent, without a single exception.
“The left eye stared at me…”
